The Music Cellar

Founded in 1983, The Music Cellar began with a simple, heartfelt idea. One evening during a family dinner, our founder, Ellen, casually mentioned to her father that she might teach piano to earn a little extra grocery money. Her father quietly excused himself and didn’t return for quite some time. When the family went to look for him, they found him in the basement—already hammer in hand, building a room around her piano so she could start teaching right away. From that moment, The Music Cellar was born.

In the 43 years since, we have taught more than 2,500 students, many of whom have returned with their own children and grandchildren, creating a beautiful legacy of music across generations.

Today, The Music Cellar offers private piano lessons that give students a complete and well-rounded musical education, including repertoire, music theory, ear training, and performance opportunities. Our carefully crafted curriculum helps each student develop lasting skills, a deep understanding of music, and a lifelong love for the art.

We are proud of our reputation for putting students first in every aspect of our program. That same spirit of care and dedication that inspired Ellen’s father all those years ago still guides us today—ensuring every student who walks through our doors receives the support, inspiration, and encouragement they need to succeed.
